Ambition:

To compete on the same level as all the successful mainstream indie bands. To have promoters take a chance on their alternative act. To take their music as far as it can and sleep, eat and breathe what they do.

The Trinity Band say they often surprise people because they do not fit the musical stereotype that people expect of them. Their music is about positivity and doesn’t contain swearing or rapping about guns and killing people, making their typical audience’s age range anything from two years old and upwards.

Founder and musical director of The Trinity Band, Obe Watson, is a youth worker known and admired for his community work. From his upbringing in Birmingham, he knows how hard it is to avoid the wrong path in life in certain communities and he wants to use his music to inspire the youth in his area to make the right choices.

When Obe founded his band, he invited cousins Craig and James to join after meeting them at a church youth workshop. Band member Pete was introduced to the group through the two cousins and Dwaine was brought on board after being mentored by Obe at college.

Since then, the band have appeared at many festivals and charity functions, as well as holding self-funded shows, including their biggest and most recent show, Trinity Presents. In their six years of performing together, they say their biggest achievement is being broadcast for two hours by BBC Radio One Xtra in Derby, leading to a huge following of fans.

The Trinity Band know how important it is to have positive role models for the youth to look up to - they want to be an inspiration to those in Derby who are pinning their hopes on their success in Must Be The Music.
